Participants’ Experiences: “Peaceful Investing” Workshop, Mumbai, May 14, 2017

Modified on June 16, 2018

The “Peaceful Investing” workshop was held in Mumbai on May 14, 2017. The workshop was aimed at sharing equity investing knowledge with the participants that could help them gain confidence while taking their equity investment decisions.

This workshop was our third in Mumbai and the presence of participants coming to Mumbai from Hyderabad and different areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra made it a special occasion for us.

The presence of outstation participants from distant cities shows that confidence that investors have placed in us. It was a similar case when we had the privilege of participants coming from:

  • Karnataka, Gurgaon and different areas of West Bengal to attend the workshop in Kolkata in April 2017
  • Muscat (Oman), Bangalore, Indore, Kolhapur, Mumbai and different areas of Maharashtra to attend the workshop in Pune in February 2017
  • Ireland, Kerala, different parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh etc. to attend the workshop in Chennai in December 2016
  • Calicut, Goa, Trichy, Mysore, Vishakhapatnam etc. to Bangalore to attend the workshop in November 2016.
  • Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Mussoorie etc. to Delhi for the Peaceful Investing workshop in October 2016.
  • Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Nanded, Pune and Bharuch coming to Mumbai for second “Peaceful Investing” workshop in September 2016 to attend it
  • Chandigarh to Mumbai to attend the first “Peaceful Investing” workshop in August 2016

We are truly honoured to have such faith from investors and it gave us immense pleasure to know that the participants found the workshop valuable and added to their stock analysis skills.

The workshop focussed on concepts of stock investing including different aspect of analysis like financial analysis, business & industry analysis, valuation analysis and management analysis along with price to pay for any stock. The workshop also focused on different data sources available to the retail investors for doing stock analysis and an in-depth understanding using Screener, which is one of the best data source available for Indian stocks

The workshop included a dedicated session on answering different queries faced by the participants while doing investments and stock analysis.

A lot of participants shared their feedback about the workshop and their learnings from it. Below are the feedback of some of the participants:

Thank you so much for the workshop. It was great!! I also thank my friend Kalpit Oza who recommended me to attend the workshop because this has changed my approach towards investing and now I feel more confident to go ahead with starting my investing journey! Now, I actually know where I will invest and will be confident about my decisions rather than having just a random idea about it. The workshop had a lot of examples of real companies and that made the learning very practical and you explained how even the minute details in their financials needed to be analysed and should not be ignored. I really liked your e-book! And the whole exercise to be done before attending the workshop so I was clear and completely with you during the workshop. I am grateful that I had a chance to get in touch with you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. It has helped me a lot. I am moving ahead with investing as per the steps mentioned by you. (Reading the books you recommended and analysing my current portfolio for now) and I am sure I can seek for your help if needed in my course ahead. Thank you once again.

Hi Vijay, Thanks for a wonderful and insightful workshop on investing. I found the structure of the workshop very logical and informative. I particularly would emphasize that there was great clarity and conviction in your investing approach. I found the e-book on Peaceful Investing a very good guide and very lucidly explained. It was good that you emphasized that we do our homework reading so that the concepts can be clarified and strengthened at the workshop. All in all, an enjoyable session. I am unable to find areas of improvement at this stage. Thank you for your patience in addressing all my queries and for sharing your investing insights. Best regards

– Revathi

Hi, This program was one of the most complete programs in equity investing that I have attended. I am glad that I invested in learning this from you. Some of the techniques explained were so simple and I hope this kind of investor awareness is done across. I am fairly new to equity investing and have started early and this was the perfect springboard to plan my next purchase. Thanks for a wonderful Sunday

Dear Sir, It was the most interesting workshop that I have ever attended. I effectively learned much more in a day what I usually learn in months. I enjoyed the flow of the workshop and it was very logical. Real company examples you use to explain the concept was a distinguished feature of your workshop and leads to phenomenal learning. I would strongly recommend attending your workshop to everyone who has been investing for years or are just starting out. Wish you published more detailed research like you have done for Ambika Cotton purely for learning. I respect your thoughts on biases entering the investment decision in such cases but benefits of learning to genuine learners would outweigh the biases. Thanks once again and look forward to more insights from you.

Hi Vijay, The session was wonderful. I was totally mesmerized with your approach and teaching style. It was very well structured. Reminded me of my MBA classes. Your slides were amazing and very well organised. Would love to catch hold of the examples you shared. Sometimes you don’t remember the theoretical parts but just because of the examples things become clear. I am very motivated and excited to start evaluating stocks using your framework and can’t wait to attend the next session. Do you hope to keep a similar session soon in Mumbai? I wish this was taught at B-School. Like the saddest part I feel is in spite of MBA, not many people know to read the statements very well. Thanks for the wonderful book! Regards

Dear Mr. Malik, The best part about the course is that it was simple and I always believe that simple works. It highlighted the importance of the word “Peaceful” being associated with Investing. It talks about the famous dialogue from Sarkar “Nazdiki fayde se Door ka Nuksaan hota hai” so focus on “Door ka fayda” Myself being a stock broker and an Options trader, I know how trading can only generate income but wealth can be made only by investing. You touched upon every aspect of investing…in-short you completed the cycle and thus gave the participant a complete view and not just bits of it which generally makes a workshop useless. Using your word “Peaceful” and thinking about it I devised my own Mantra to follow for a great life: Peaceful Investing, Steady Business, Long-Lasting Relationships, Evergreen Health and Happy Soul. I am going to attend Mr. Sanjay Bakshi’s course in FLAME university in July. Your workshop has given me a kick-start to enjoy the same. Net..Net..a great experience…I shall be in touch once I begin my investing journey soon. Regards,

– Ravi Biyani

Good Afternoon, It was truly useful for me. Your seminar not only cleared my doubts but also boosted my conviction power in investing. I personally didn’t realized how the time got over. Happy to come across you & your blog. regards,

– Pranav Mehta

Hi Dr Malik, The workshop was extremely educative and almost flawless – the venue, the small group, the content, flow, timing and of course the explanation. Regards,

– Rushabh Sheth

"Peaceful Investing": My Stock Investing Approach

“Peaceful Investing” approach is the result of my more than a decade of experience in equity markets. This approach helped me invest even when I had a full-time corporate job and could not spare a lot of time for stock analysis. During my investing journey, I have faced all the common challenges of the investors, the biggest one being “scarcity of time”. “Peaceful Investing” approach keeps in mind that an investor will have limited amount of time to spare for stock investing.

The objective of “Peaceful Investing” approach is the selection of such stocks, where once an investor has put in her money, then she may sleep peacefully. Therefore, if later on, the stock prices rise, then the investor is happy as she is now wealthier. On the contrary, if the stock prices fall, even then the investor is happy as she can now buy more quantity of the selected fundamentally good stocks.
